Go through all the kids’ backpacks and make sure they are completely empty. If possible, put them through the wash. If they cannot be laundered, decide if they will last for another school year. If not, toss it, if yes; put a couple of dryer sheets in each zipper area. This way the backpack will be fresh for the following year
