my advice:
As the most “disorganized member” of the Buttoned Up team, my #1 piece of advice is to not get caught up in being perfectly organized. You’ll spend more time stressing about the perfection of it all than you will just doing what you are comfortable with and works for you. My office looks very messy to most, but it works for me.”

my to-do list habits

Every morning I make my to do list and try to put the items in order of importance. I do the list either on my computer and then print it out to take with me, or I write it in my Buttoned Up Do&Delegate notebook…I really love the “Delegate” part!  The things I did not get done that day go over to the top of the next day’s list. I love to cross off each completed item…it makes me feel great!

a little about me

Nancy Meyer is the only self-proclaimed disorganized member of Buttoned Up, Inc. She jokes about her disorganized office and tendency to be a ‘pile person,’ but those who know her and love her are confident she’s got the important information organized and at her fingertips. This mom can vividly recall struggling to keep herself organized, after her divorce 30 years ago. She then faced another major family organizational challenge when she re-married and had to combine families. These events made her realize the importance of having vital information about your life at the ready.

For over a decade, Nancy ran her own company, Historic Restorations, which specialized in refurbishing homes in Orange County, CA. In 2004, she became a partner in Buttoned Up because she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work with her sisters on this exciting venture – not to mention the chance to invent organizational products that she might actually use! In addition to her work with Buttoned Up, Nancy is a tireless volunteer and board member for several non profits, including United Way of Orange County and Laguna Dance Festival..

Nancy is a mother of four children, ranging in age from 19 to 40, and a grandmother to three.  In addition to keeping track of her children and grandchildren, Meyer looks after her 88-year-old mother. Nancy and her husband, Mike, live in Laguna Beach, California, which has given her a unique perspective on emergency preparedness. “Living where we do, I have seen wildfires, mudslides and earthquakes take peoples homes in the blink of an eye, some of it happening literally just blocks from where I live. Seeing so many lose so much really motivated me to get prepared for the unexpected. You just never know when you need to grab your important stuff and go.”

i can't live without...

  • CNN.com

Gives me a quick overview of what is going on locally, nationally, and internationally as I start my day.

  • Target.com

Any gifts I may need, especially toys.

  • Proflowers.com

Wasy way to send that special someone a little joy.

  • Power Shot Canon Digital camera

Allows me to download and send off to friends and family all the newest photos.

  • Tax Filer

Before I got this, my tax information was in 10 different places and it was a nightmare at tax time when my CPA needed my information. Now I keep this on my desk and file all necessary information, receipts, and documents in this one place -- ready to hand over when needed.

  • Collision.kit

Everyone should have one…I have used mine for a fender bender and it made the experience less stressful. My entire family has one in each of their cars, hopefully never to be used, but still there just in case.

a few of our favorite things

  • Collision.kit, $19.95

Just having this complete kit in my car and in the cars of my family and friends, makes me feel confident that we will all be prepared for any accident that might happen while we’re on the road. It is like a little security blanket in a red zippered kit -- easy to use at a time of stress. The disposable camera and preprinted forms take the guesswork out of gathering necessary information. Great whether you are a new driver or the one who has been on the road for years.

  • Tax.filer, $19.95

Who doesn’t dread facing that deadline each year when everything for the IRS needs to be found and then documented for your tax return? This great system lets you file tax-related receipts and documents all year in the necessary categories, so that it is all in one place when you really need to find it. You will be a hero in the two weeks before April 15th.

  • Life.doc, $29.95

With family members spread out around the country these days, this documentation system of all critical information in one location can act as the roadmap to one’s life and where to find everything. This is the perfect grab and go book that everyone needs in case of a fire, earthquake, hurricane, etc. Making a computer file of this information and sending it to an out of state contact is also an option as well with the Life.doc software.

  • Password.log, $4.95

The Password.log is so helpful in this age of internet shopping, banking, etc. Each site usually requires a password and user name, which can get hard to track with so many, unless you use the same one for everything, which is not a good security option. Having the passwords written somewhere, other than your computer, in a safe location, is also a way to keep these important passwords secure.
