As a teacher and a mommy of a toddler, I applaud you! We need more parents to encourage responsibility at a young age and also more parents that are willing to actually TEACH their children how to do things instead of just doing it for them because they don’t want to put forth the effort or don’t know how to teach their child. Children are like little sponges – we don’t give them enough credit! They are capable of so much more! Thanks for sharing – I plan on using these tips with my toddler!

Sarah, something you didn’t mention, but you did so beautifully, was “task analysis and breakdown”. You showed your little guy how capable he was, then you gave him opportunities to practice that were fun ( you crawled in with him). You showed him in increments and gave him a chance to improve (step-by-step), And, you used the stickers to reward him just for remembering and trying. You rock!
