How many loads of laundry do you do each week?

Since having two boys, the amount of time I spend lugging laundry bags down to the basement, doing the washing, drying, folding, and lugging them back upstairs again has skyrocketed. My husband and I used to do a load once a week (or every 10 days).

Post kids – we were up to four times a week. But I’ve since pared it back to three “anointed laundry days” (Monday & Friday for kids, and Sunday for grownups).

And that probably sounds infrequent to moms with more kids.

I happen to love doing the laundry. I love grabbing armfuls of warm fluffy goodness out of the dryer. And, at the risk of sounding like a complete lunatic, I adore folding.

I love the “crack” that shirts and pants make when you whip them in the air before laying them down on a flat surface. I love wiping the wrinkles out with a firm swipe. And I love finding just the right point in a shirt or pair of pants to fold, so that when done, it looks good enough for a shelf at the Gap (yes, I worked retail in my youth!).

The one thing that I don’t love is my laundry closet. While perfectly functional, it’s not visually inspiring at all. The washer and dryer are in a closet in the basement playroom. It has some shelves above, but overall the aesthetic is pretty bleak.

One of the projects I am committed to completing this year is transforming our simple closet into something beautiful.
