If you’ve been a follower of Buttoned Up for a while, you know that I’m a HUGE fan of baby steps.
So often, when you go to make a change at the start of the year, like say, lose weight or get organized, you get blinded by the bigness of the job.
And you convince yourself that you don’t have the time.
Or the energy.
Or the tools you need to get the job done.
So you put it off until that magical moment when you have enough, which of course never comes.
Interestingly, researchers have just published a study that indicates working out in short bursts (10 minutes or less) is effective, if you do enough of those short bursts throughout the week to add up to 150 minutes.
Here’s a snippet of what they published in the Wall Street Journal late last week (emphasis mine).
Compared with noncompliant subjects, all those who met the U.S. weekly exercise guidelines, regardless of how the 150 minutes were accrued, had significantly lower triglycerides, waist circumferences and body mass indexes, and improved cholesterol scores, tests showed.
I can also report that the same holds true for getting organized.
People who organize in short, frequent bursts of 10 or 15 minutes, are just as organized as those who devote larger blocks of time to it.
