You could contain a bottle or two in a little desk organizer like the one pictured above and keep that right by the front or back door (whichever is used most).

At least one of the articles listed a pharmaceutical/beauty product company spokesperson as recommending it not be stored in a car. I too tend to think that the product might be OK for one summer, but since my car is always parked outside with no shade, I think I’ll be cautious and opt for the other suggestion of keeping a handy to go bag of supplies near the door instead.

But that assumes you are storing it in a temperature that’s around 75 degrees. Keeping it in a hot car will reduce efficacy – but I would assume keeping a bottle in a hot car would be okay for one summer. I don’t know the rate at which bug spray declines, but I am sure it does as well.

So bottom line: be sure to check expiration dates. And if you are in doubt, toss and replace with a new bottle.

We ended the summer season with 12 bottles of sunscreen some full, some slightly used, some pretty near empty. I did the math and figured that we had basically thrown $80 down the drain that we didn’t need to. Insanity!
