Book review & giveaway: consider it done

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNER!

Using Random.org, I selected Laura Ambrose as the lucky winner of this book! Thanks to all who entered.

Have you ever wished you had a personal concierge?

I know I wish for one just about every day of the week!

How nice would it be to have someone pick up your dry cleaning when you’re pinched for time, actually secure a reservation for you at the hottest restaurant in town…at the last minute, or simply organize that photo album you’ve always had such good intentions of finishing?

Well, Julie Subotky, a personal concierge to the insanely busy New York crowd, does just that.

I’ve known Julie since the fall of 1999, when we met as participants in a boot camp program in Central Park run by an intense (if a little nutty) Austrian soldier and his partner, an Australian rowing champion. Gluttons for punishment, we also trained for the London Marathon together during a particularly bitter cold New York winter. In the intervening years, we’ve attended each other’s weddings, celebrated the arrival of our baby boys, and leaned on each other as fellow entrepreneurs.

Over the past decade I’ve watched in awe as Julie tackled just about every imaginable task for her clients, from pulling off the seeming impossible (last minute reservations for 8 at Per Se? Consider it done!) to the truly mind-boggling (sneaking an elephant into Central Park). The woman is a force of nature!

Happily for those of us who either (a) don’t live in NYC or (b) can’t really afford a personal concierge, Julie shares her secrets for getting some of life’s trickiest tasks done in a new book titled: consider it done. It’s packed with literally hundreds of tips for getting things done you may have otherwise thought were impossible. It’s a great read…a must-have book for your reference library.

We’re going to be giving away one signed copy. You can enter up to four times by doing each of the following:

1. Leave a comment on this post. Easy, right? You can comment about anything, but I’d really love to hear what kinds of crazy tasks you’ve pulled off or about what you’d have your own personal concierge do for you.

2. Tweet this link and encourage your friends to check out GetButtonedUp.com and follow us on Twitter @GetButtonedUp. Be sure to include the #getbuttonedup on the tweet so we can track it and count it as an entry.

3 and 4. If you haven’t already, go check out the Facebook pages for ButtonedUp and Consider It Done – be sure to “like” both if you like what you see! Then, come back here and let us know. If you visit both FB pages, let us know about each one in a separate comment so each one counts.

The contest will run until Sunday evening, February 6, at midnight. Winners will be announced IN THIS POST on Monday, February 7.

Good luck!

    Personal Concierge?

    Yes, please!

I don’t know if I’ve done anything too crazy, but woke up at 3am for 5 days in a row to get the holiday orders for my shop sent out. I wanted to make sure I had time for family stuff, decorating, and all of our traditions too!

    thanks for the giveaway!

I feel like I have been bogged down in the details of life for so long, I have no idea what I would get a concierge to do!! I keep so many things in my head there is a rolling ticker-tape of tasks for each day and it gets all squishy as last-minute things come up that have to get done, too. Hmm, I’m thinking my problem is one of organization. Sigh. Nobody can organize my head!

This book looks extremely interesting. Elephant in Central Park? I don’t need that, but I do need to figure out swimming snacks for an allergy kid that can be eaten on the fly and are not messy and don’t rot after a few hours in the backpack. And then get or make the snack in enough quantity to see through 5 swim practices in a week. Repeat. ;-)

I already “like” the Buttoned Up FB page. I try to get to it everyday. I really like the February calendar good intentions ideas. They are great ways to get me to think beyond myself and letting others know how much I love that they are in my life. Thanks for putting it together.

When my daughters were 3 and 4 I had the awesome responsibility of packing up a household of four for a 400 mile move, with out any help. My wife had to move for her job one month before us. I knew going into it, that the challenge was big, but conquered without a hitch. I would have my personal concierge do all of our laundry.

I think this would be a fun book to read.

I don’t think I pull off anything big like an elephant..but I can put together a great Disney vacation without much notice (in Disney speak meaning not months and months ahead) including meal reservations, character experiences and plenty of park time.
