Things Are Looking Up!
Things Are Looking Up!
We know someone who has lost a job in the last few years. It’s been pretty dismal. But now it looks like things are picking up – at least according to Indeed.com’s review of 2010 online job posting activity. Indeed.com is a search engine for jobs, allowing job seekers to find jobs posted on thousands of company career sites and job boards. It’s pretty cool if you are looking for a job! I’ve used it before my time at Buttoned Up and found it saved so much time when looking online for a job.
Here are the highlights:
*After declining 13% in 2009, U.S. job postings increased 88% last year
*Transportation and manufacturing, both cyclical industries, had the largest percentage increase in job postings year-over-year
*Seven of the 10 metro areas with the most competition for jobs were in California and Florida.
I think it’s also important to note that the competition for jobs has gone down too! According to the report, “Competition for jobs in the 50 most populous metro areas was much improved last year. Our April Job Market Competition report marked the first time in 2010 that all metro areas had fewer than 10 unemployed persons per job posting.”
