Holiday Scramble

For the past 12 years, my husband and I spent our Christmas’ on his parent’s custody schedule! Christmas eve was at his grandmother’s house, we would get up at 5am to do our own exchange and get ready and we would be on the road by 9am to spend the morning with his mother, then from her house we spent the afternoon at his dad’s then dinner at his grandmas. Then we would have to rush to my moms to spend about an hour in the evening with my family. It was AWFUL. Things did not change much when the kids came along and I resented it a that point. My poor small children would open presents and then be rushed from house to house, wearing super frilly dresses. I just felt like everyone was being so selfish and not considering that Christmas should be about the kids.

This year we moved south and are living with my mom and sister. We can just get up, when the kids are ready, open presents, and then just relax! Then in the early evening our neighbors are all getting together at our house for a pot luck dinner. I’m looking forward to being able to concentrate on enjoying my children…and they can concentrate on their new gifts!!
