Become a Greeting Card Organizing Guru

Keep tracking of birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and all of the other special events that take place during the year can be a real challenge. While you may want to send cards for each event, and have every intention of doing so, life happens and unless you are organized, getting cards out on time does not always happen. The tips and tricks below will make it easy to stay on top of getting those cards out and leave you feeling much less stressed.

Plan of Attack

Before rushing out to buy cards, sit down and make a list of all of the events that you would like to recognize throughout the next twelve months. Do not worry if it is mid-year, start now and move forward. On the list include birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, impending births, and any other big occasions. Indicate how many of each are for men, women and children. By making the list ahead of time, you will find that card shopping becomes less complicated and organizing becomes a breeze.

Card Shopping

When you first venture into the card store, browse all of the aisles first. Seek out the inexpensive cards for young children who will not be as invested in them, and focus on the more poignant cards for special loved ones. Purchase one card for every occasion on your list. Check them off as you put them in your basket, so that you can be sure you have purchased all you need. It is always a good idea to get a few extra ‘Thank You” or “Congratulations” cards just in case. Do not forget to buy stamps for each card before you return home.

Organizing Your Cards

Once home, find a basket or box that can hold all of the cards you purchased. Make sure that the container is big enough to accommodate even the largest card, so that you can keep them all together. Lidded baskets or a hanging wall art basket are great choices, because they are functional as well as stylish. Arrange the cards in order by placing the one that will be used next at the beginning and the event that is farthest off at the end. Place each card in the envelope, address the envelope and stamp it, but do not seal it. This allows you to quickly write a personal message in the card, seal it up and drop it in a mailbox. Your cards will be organized and ready to go.

Reminders

On your wall calendar or your mobile calendar, place a note one week ahead of when each card needs to be mailed. This will give you enough time to send it before the event. You can also choose to mail cards once a week and group the cards that are within a ten day time span together to mail. This will cut down on the reminders and will also ensure that cards arrive in plenty of time.

By taking the time to organize your cards, you will free up time spent running out to the store, searching for stamps and addresses, and worrying about finding the time to do it all. While the organizational process may take two to three hours to completely finish, it is well worth it in the end. Family and friends will be touched that they have been remembered and you will rest easy knowing that you have everything under control.
