Thursday’s Carrot: Not Being Afraid To Ask For Help

Last week I moved into my new place. One of the hardest things for me to do was overcome my apprehension to ask for help.

How did I do it? Well, 1) I didn’t have many options: I would’ve either had to shell out a whole lot of money to hire movers or ask my friends for help, and 2) I was so stretched and stressed as it was, I was at the tipping point. I came to terms with reality and realized I didn’t have the money to afford movers, and I let go of the thought that I would be burdening my friends. I mean, that’s what friends are for, right? To be there for you in times of need?

I think this was a real breakthrough for me. From here on out, whenever I’m overwhelmed or in need of help, I won’t be afraid to ask. Have any of you had similar experiences to share? If so, please share in the comments box below!

    Sarah,

Congrats on moving! I assume that you mean your new office. YES, I can relate to this lesson! I have only recently started asking people for help and it is making a big difference. Since I am writing about a psychological issue, I knew I needed a clinical psychologist to guide me and review my work. I was afraid to ask, but when I finally got up the courage to approach someone I found out my topic is her major research interest and she is helping me tremendously! Also, the number of people who have come forward to be interviewed simply because I asked others to put the word out is making the project possible. If I never asked for help, this project could not happen.
I would have been afraid to ask for help a few years ago, but not now.

I am headed to Washington D.C. to help my daughter organize her new apartment. She asked for my help to organize which I am thrilled to do. I am happy she asked and I am proud of you for asking–or at least being willing to ask. I bet you’de go to the aid of your friends just like they will be happy to come to their aid when they need it. This life is a two way street!
