Thursday’s Carrot: Seeking Focus

It’s always hard to get anything done when your mind is racing a mile a minute and you’re thinking about a million different things: what am I cooking for dinner tonight, who’s going to pick up Johnny from school, what to get mom for her birthday, etc. It’s impossible to focus on any one thing when you’re constantly thinking about all the other things you have to do today.
Last week, I was in this state at work and desperate to find something to still my racing mind. So I went online and looked for a word search puzzle and came across this site. I printed out one of the puzzles and forced myself to do it:
It probably took me a good thirty minutes to do that first puzzle because I wasn’t able to focus on the search. After I finished the first one, I made myself do another puzzle, and then one more. By the third one, I was able to focus on the word search and finish the puzzle faster.
Since then, whenever I’m having a difficult time focusing, I print out one of these puzzles and do it. This really has been a good exercise in helping me focus.
