The Power of Organized Women: Notes from Blissdom

A week ago today I boarded a jet plane destined for the Blissdom conference in Nashville, TN.
It was an incredible three days of workshops, inspiring speeches, meeting other amazing women bloggers, and…er…getting the lowdown from Harry Connick, Jr. on whether he bunches or folds (check in with @whitecloudmom on Twitter for the answer). Oh yes, and I almost forgot – three glorious days of sleeping through the night (thank you dh for manning the fort in my absence)!
In a nutshell, the conference made me feel unbelievably lucky to be a part of this woman/mompreneur/blogger world. As a refugee from the Dilbert-like reality of corporate life, where zero-sum transactions are the norm, I was blown away by the arms-wide-open, let’s-collaborate orientation of the other attendees. In that spirit, please take a peek at some of the wonderful things others are doing:
Leah at Mamavation – used her own incredible weight-loss story to build a community spurring others to follow suit.
Carla at MizFit Online is dedicated to helping busy women find ways to fit fitness into their lives with videos, posts and more
Danielle at ExtraordinaryMommy reminds moms of the extraordinary work they do daily while loving and raising their children.
Laura and Amy at Chambanamoms help moms in the Champaign-Urbana area get the most of their area (and of life in general)
Dina at Baby Center blogs about motherhood and the state of parenting today with a wicked sense of humor.
Kimba at A Soft Place to Land blogs about her crafty projects, faith and family, and other neat things.
Wendy at Momsational is an awesome entrepreneur and prolific creator of fun activities for kiddos.
Kim and Kris at DIYDish dish (with excellent videos) about projects you really can tackle yourself.
Tricia at Once a Month Mom shows us how to eat healthily and inexpensively by cooking only once a month (love that!!)
Lisa at Studio Jewel – – has a beautiful beaded jewelry business and home-schools her children. (officially in awe!!)
Molly at Political Mommentary is a fiscal conservative who is in the process of creating a vibrant forum for moms to get (and give) opinions about political goings-on.
Alicia and Mary AnnToday’s Moms share their own stories of motherhood along with anecdotes from other moms on the Today Show.
Lori at A Cowboy’s Wife chronicles her reflections about ranch life, kids, health & fitness, and photography. As if that weren’t enough, she also has a food blog, My Wooden Spoon, where she shares family recipes and share her passion for food photography.
Bay at Queen Mother Blog helps others with the daunting journey of saving money, and, since she’s a self-described “talker,” she dishes about lots of other things too.
And of course, our fellow White Cloud mom bloggers:
Sommer at Green & Clean Mom helps ordinary mortals navigate the world in more eco-friendly ways.
Briana at Bargain Briana uncovers and shares amazing bargains.
Alyssa at Kingdom First Mom shows us all ways to spend less so that we can give back more.
Miranda at Keeper of the Cheerios – writes about her life as a mom and shares great recipes, crafts and tutorials.
…and that’s only the tip of the iceberg. I have a stack of business cards a mile high. Stay tuned for more profiles and must-meet bloggers over the coming months.
On a final note, Blissdom was, for me, a wonderful reminder of the power of organization.
The event itself was incredibly well put together, which in turn made me more productive. The women in attendance had all figured out ways to organize their hectic schedules to fit in their blogging without sacrificing their personal lives – pretty awesome if you ask me (how many people do you know out there who are just hoping that they align their passions and work eventually…someday?). Finally, and most importantly, our ability to help others in need, emotionally, physically and financially, by coming together.
