We like to joke around here about a little something we call org porn.
You know, all those dreamy images where everything is serene, pristine and perfectly in order? They’re problematic because we tend to compare ourselves and our general state of organization to those (unrealistic) images. If you think that your living room/mud room/closets have to be like those pictures in order to be considered “organized,” you’re pretty much always going to be beating yourself up for falling short of the mark. And that’s not so good.
But sometimes a little org porn is good for you.
When? Well, when you’re in need of a little reminder of the benefits of getting organized. There’s nothing quite like a little org porn to remind you of how good organized feels. So if you’ve made a promise to declutter but haven’t gotten around to it yet, grab a shelter magazine, a catalog (I recommend Pottery Barn, Room & Board, or Ikea catalogs), or a coffee table book on home decor and just lose yourself for a bit in the beauty of cleanliness.
(Just remember that the organized rooms are messier than they appear.)
