Giveaway: My Forever Home A Guide to ReHoming the Rescued Dog

My Forever Home A Guide to ReHoming the Rescued Dog by Maura A. Furie

What does your dog eat? Where does your dog sleep? What difference does it make?

You’ve taken the plunge and chosen a new dog. Or perhaps the dog has chosen you, parking himself beside the rose bush. Where ever your new friend has come from, he undoubtedly has brought his baggage with him. You want him to feel welcome in your home, gut you find the baggage he has brought with him contains some gad as well as some good.

Forever Home is a guide to choosing the right second had dog for you, and blending that dog into your family. it is also useful for a family who started out with a puppy and needs a little guidance in turning that canine into the best dog ever.

“If your dog was removed from his mom and litter mates too young problems facing you are: inability to housebreak, hard mouth, snapping, fear of everyday occurrences, difficulty learning, inability to get along with other dogs, and separation anxiety, to name a few.”

“Rehearse proper petting procedures with any child that will come in contact with the dog. A friendly pat on the head can get fingers bitten off. Remember, dogs often misinterpret human behavior.”

Is your dog barking too much? Not properly housebroken? Chewing on inappropriate items? Snapping at children? Does she only listen to you when food in involved? Does he drag you down the street when you take him for a walk? Is she afraid of men? Is he stubborn?

Step by step, Forever Home takes you through choosing a dog, the dog’s first day with you, training, and approaches to creating good behavior and outwitting bad behavior. This book, while written for those who have a rescued dog, is very useful for all dog owners.

Keep your dog with you, you are his Forever Home.

We are in the process of rescuing another dog over the holiday. :)

I’d love a copy of this book! We adopted another dog (chihuhua mix) about 3 weeks ago. She was picked up by animal control eating road kill. She had been through quite a few homes because of these problems, however we are her forever home. But I’d love help working through these problems with her. Lots of my kids toys have been destroyed and cleaning up accidents every time we come would not be missed!

Thanks for letting finding this book!

I can’t believe I can across this book at the correct time. We rescued a cocker spaniel from a shelter almost 1 yr ago. I did notice somethings about him: Doesn’t like his hind end area touched much and does not like men with deep voices or facial hair. Which draws me to the conclusion that a previous owner (male) may have mistreated him at some point in his life, possibly involving the hind quarters. If I don’t win a copy of this book I definitely will pick it up in a store.

Ladies – thank you for your comments! I adopted a Yellow Lab Retriever and while walking her a baby Chihuahua adopted us!The Lab thinks she’s a sister and they play and love each other and it’s great – now that she realizes you go potty outside! Took 2 years for her to get that – they are kinda slow in that area. Never had a day of problems w/the Lab but I wouldn’t trade them for anything! Hope you win the book! It’s really good!

Whoever wins the book, please let me know how you like it. I didn’t want to write the book, I wanted to buy it from someone else when a beat up stray stepped from the back woods and into our hearts. That is her on the cover of the book. Mary, have you had his hindquarters xrayed? He may have slipped disc or arthritis. Thanks to all of you for becoming a Forever Home.

  • Mary Treace

    Maura,

No, I hadn’t thought to have his hindquarters x-rayed. Next time I talk to/visit the vet I will ask him about it. I look forward to the book and will e-mail you when I have finished it.

    Thanks again!!

Dogs have a special section in my heart. I have saved dogs on two occasions from busy streets in rush hour traffic. Everybody else was dodging the pets. The Wirehair Terrior had a bow in her hair, smelled of good perfume and had pink polish on her paws. The Pomeranian had a collar and was slowly lumbering about. He had realized his escape when the gate was opened by a gardener. I called a friend on the street and they knew the dog. Returning him to the owner, I received no thanks, but inside I knew the dog was home and would have busy dreams that night reliving his trip.
